VISIT is the product of the research residency entitled “Viewing dance, viewing art” conducted by Isaac Spencer and Franz Ehrenberg as part of TANZPAKT Dresden.

We began our research by introducing our creative processes to one another, sharing work samples, and interviewing each other about our urgencies as artists. I was invited into Franz’s atelier to witness how he creates his paintings and I shared with him my dances in the studio. By identifying where our working methods intersect, we experimented with creating different spaces in order to test how the viewer interacted with and experienced our work.

Over the course of the residency we met our reference groups from SKD and our volunteer from Volssolidarität several times, incorporating their feedback into our creations. We focused our efforts on the visuality of dance and created a set in which we had the possibility to test the viewer’s perception of space and movement. We chose objects, textures, and colors that invited the viewer to form associations with our materials. By combining elements of our respective artistic practices, we collaborated to create live performance situations to research the reception and participation of the viewer.
